Twilight success

With all of the “undead” novels available, writer Stephanie Meyer has hit it big with her characters Bella, Edward, and Jacob.  The Twilight series has now been made into two movies with a third on the way, and a promise for two more.  Why are they so popular?  Because they have all of the elements that appeal to teens: uncertainty, emotional struggles, learning about love and passion.  One thing they don’t have is sex.  Meyer says it is because she is Mormon, and wanted to create a series that would reach a wide audience, but also show that sex before marriage is not the best way.  Yes, Bella and Edward do kiss, but what is more apparent is the tension buildup that many have said makes for a better story.  I think I would have to agree.  Even though these books are geared for the younger audience, there is still a dynamic that is appealing to others as well.  While these aren’t going to top the literary fiction list, they are certainly a genre that deserves some attention in the story-telling department.  Check out the first book in the series today, or get the movie from CCL!

With all of the recent campaign excitement and the upcoming inauguration, I thought it might be kind of fun to explore what it means to be president.  This flash interactive, produced by the Smithsonian, is a great way to learn all about the presidency and our past presidents. New teen website for CCL!

Hello all!
This is the new and improved Teen Space for the Cimarron City Library! With the addition of the new Teen Advisory Board , we will be adding many exciting new features. This will be an ongoing project and as the webmaster, I am welcoming your input to make this site as great as it can be. I am new to WordPress, and thus will be making changes as I go along and learn how this system works.  I thank you for your patience while I work out the kinks.  I would also like to invite you to become contributors to the blog portion of the site. If you are interested, please contact me and I will get you started with the interview process.  Not everyone will be chosen to be a contributing author, but we’ll accept up to five contributors this year to start.  The format of this site is like a blog, but since I am using WordPress, it will also have static pages and media points.
As you can see, there are four columns that we will “grow” over time.  In other words, as we add links, posts, info, media, ideas, pictures, etc., each column will grow longer. There will always be four main columns. The first (far left) will be the section that you will view blog posts as they are submitted, or the static pages if you click on a link to one.  The second column will contain the links to the static pages as well as things like “sticky” things like the Book Club jacket that will change every week.  The third column will contain everything you could possibly need to help you do your best in school.  We understand the difficulties of juggling the many things in your life and want to provide you with a way to get help fast.  And finally, the fourth column will be the home of the “blue file box” that will contain files for download.  Right now there is the “Teen Advisory Board” .pdf file application that you can download and submit for review. Underneath this, you will find the Archive that will list the months of the year in order to see what blog posts have been submitted.  If you ever want to return to the most current post, just simply click on the link of the current month and it will appear in Column One.
Once you get used to the look and feel of the site, you will probably find, as I did, that it is a user friendly, current site, chock full of information that you can use on a regular basis.  Make this your home page at home on your computer or laptop for school.
So sit back and browse the site. Think up ways you would like to be a part of this, and let us know what you think! This is “your” community, “your” space at the Cimarron City Library.
All the best,
Lynn
